Port Credit Yacht Club has a long history of the excellence in racing. Many of our racers have gone on to qualify for Olympic, Pan Am, National and Provincial Sailing Teams. Learn to Race/Green Team (CANSail 2) – (Recommended ages 8+)
(Two week sessions, Lunch included)
Prerequisites: CANSail 1or Instructor Recommendation Required
UPDATED PROGRAM. The Learn to Race program is 2 week program developed to teach the fundamentals of racing, while still maintaining a focus on fun, safety and basic sailing skills. This course is taught in fibreglass Optimist and prepares the first time racer for some local regattas in the Optimist Green Fleet (beginners) and progression to the Optimist Race Team program. Must have completed CANSail1 or coach recommended.
Programs are offered in two week sessions Monday to Friday 9 AM - 430 PM during July and August.
Optimist Development Team (CANSail 3&4)
(Four week sessions)
Prerequisites: LTR or CANSail 1&2 checklists completed
Requirements: Each sailor must provide own Optimist Dinghy
Building on the LTR program the Optimist Development Team is for the Intermediate Racer. Team members will work towards their CANSail 3&4 levels, while continuing to developing their boat handling and tactical skills introduced in LTR. Team members are encouraged to participate in local regattas, which will require a high degree of commitment on the part of both the sailor and parents. Coaches and support boats will accompany sailors to regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from PCYC. Spring and Fall training or available options.
Instructor recommendation required. Team Size - Max 8 sailors
This program is offered in 4 week sessions during July and August Or as a Spring & Summer session from May to August
Optimist High Performance Team (CANSail 5&6)
(Full Season May to October)
Prerequisites: Opti Development Team/Coach Recommended
Requirements: Each sailor must provide own Optimist Dinghy
The High Performance Team will have a strong focus on learning racing skills and attending competitions. Coached by a top International coach, the best knowledge will be provided so the sailor will achieve their best during competitons.Team members will compete in local and international regattas and requires a high degree of commitment on the part of both the sailors and parents. Coaching and support boats will accompany sailors to regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from PCYC.
This program is only offered as Full Season program from May to October
Laser Development Team (CANSail 5&6)

Building on the Optimist program, team members will continue working towards their CANSail 3&4 levels, with a focus on learning racing skills. Double-Handed 420 Race Team (CANSail 4-6)
(Four week sessions)
Prerequisites: CANSail 3 checklist completed
Requirements: PCYC will supply 420 sailboat, charter fee included
In this program the advancing sailors’ skills are consolidated and applied to racing/sailing faster. Training becomes more challenging, and complexity is added to result in a sailor with the foundation to carry on in racing, and/or leadership. A greater commitment is expected of the members of our race team as participation at local regattas is an integral part of the program and requires a strong commitment from both the parents and the sailors. Regattas require travel and parents are needed for travel, planning, chaperoning, pulling trailers, and assisting at regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from PCYC. Coaching at regattas will be provided.
29er Race Team
Requirements: Each sailor must provide/Charter their own 29er
The 29er Race Team is for experienced racers looking to sail a high tech performance boat. The sailors will work on specific skills related to the 29er with an experienced coach. The team will push themselves to be top of the fleet and qualify for CDN youth teams. Extensive travel is required for both training and regattas. Coach recommendation is required. Own boat is required.
Spring Training
Requirements: Each sailor must provide/Charter their own Optimist, Laser or C420 Dinghy
Get an early start on the sailing season and be ready for all of the regattas.Dry Suits are strongly recommended for this time of year when the Lake temperature is still cold. Regular training is Saturdays 10am - 4 pm starting in early May. Spring regattas require travel and parents are needed for travel planning, chaperoning, pulling trailers, and assisting at regattas. Please note that regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee. Parents will be needed for logistical support and to chaperone at regattas away from PCYC. Coaching at regattas will be provided.
Fall Training

Keep improving your sailing & racing skills and extend the sailing season. Regular training is Saturdays 10am - 4 pm through to the end of October. Fall regattas require travel and parents are needed for travel planning, chaperoning, pulling trailers, and assisting at regattas.
