HEAD COACH, FEDE DONZINO, CONTINUES TO HELM YOUTH AND ADULT SAILING RENEWING A TWO YEAR COMMITMENT AT PORT CREDIT YACHT CLUB.
“I am thrilled to continue as Head Coach at PCYC. These past few years have proven that with the right development and resources, our athletes can achieve not only great national results, but also international results.” said Fede Donzino, Head Coach, PCYC. “I’m passionate about building a solid foundation and taking youth sailing to the next level so our high-performance sailors can obtain their goals at future world sailing events.”
Fede’s passion and leadership is evident. In 2022, seven PCYC Optimist class sailors will be competing in International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) events. PCYC boasts four of the five Team Canada Optimist sailors who will compete in the Optimist World Championships in Bodrum, Turkey with Fede as their coach.
Athletes in other boat classes who have trained under Fede are also competing on the international stage in the 29er double-handed, single trapeze skiff high-tech boat. Fede strongly advocated and launched the 29er High-Performance Race Team in 2021. This year the team is setting their sights to become the top of the fleet and qualify for the Canadian youth teams starting with the Ontario team selection for the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
Fede has also helped build PCYC’s Laser and 420 Program. We had record growth in both programs in 2021, with four PCYC sailors having been selected for the Sail Canada Youth Squad and 1 team taking second spot in the i420 Youth World’s Qualifier.
“Our mission at PCYC is to be the best yacht club with the best youth and adult sailing programs on Lake Ontario” said Glenn Williams, General Manager, Port Credit Yacht Club. “With Fede at the helm of our coaching staff and commitment to the foundational development of our sailors, I’m confident that we’ll continue to generate spectacular sailors with a life-long passion for sailing.”
From Optis to Zests, Lasers to double-handed 420s and 29ers, Head Coach Fede will continue to oversee the coaching and recruitment of world-class coaches for the youth and adult sailing Learn-to-Sail programs.
