Since 1955, fully crewed yachts have been taking the challenge of a spring offshore race. The Susan Hood is a great race to shake down your boat and crew and start the season!
This is one of Lake Ontario’s most historic overnight distance races, with roots dating back to 1955. Established through the vision of PCYC member Doug Hood, the race was created to support a simpler, fairer handicapping system for custom-built racer/cruisers. Doug donated the trophy in honour of his daughter, Susan, and worked alongside legendary yacht designer George Cuthbertson to help launch what became known as the Lake Ontario Rule — a system that shaped handicap racing on the lake for decades.
The inaugural race sailed a course from Port Credit to Oakville, on to Port Dalhousie, and back, setting the tone for a challenging but accessible overnight event. Over time, as handicapping systems evolved from LOR to PHRF, the Susan Hood Trophy Race continued to adapt while maintaining its original spirit: competitive racing that fits into a busy sailing season without consuming an entire weekend.
Today, the Susan Hood Trophy is awarded to the overall PHRF winner, with additional trophies recognizing division winners. Known for its efficient format and strong fleet participation, the race remains a highlight of PCYC’s racing calendar and a favourite among sailors looking for a meaningful overnight challenge on Lake Ontario.

The PCYC Open is a summer highlight at Port Credit Yacht Club, bringing together a diverse mix of competitive fleets for two days of high-energy course racing on Lake Ontario.
With multiple fleets split across two courses, the regatta delivers exciting racing across a wide range of classes.
Beyond the racing, sailors and crews gather at the clubhouse after racing to relax, refuel, and connect — making the weekend as social as it is competitive.
Whether you’re racing for podium finishes or simply enjoying a well-run regatta, the PCYC Open offers great racing, great people, and a classic yacht club experience.

The Lake Ontario 300 / 600 Challenge is the premier offshore race on Lake Ontario and one of the most demanding freshwater distance races in the world. First conceived in 1990 by a group of double-handed sailors, the event was designed as the ultimate endurance challenge — and it remains the longest annual freshwater race anywhere.
Starting and finishing at Port Credit Yacht Club, the race offers multiple course options that test seamanship, navigation, strategy, and resilience. The flagship 300-nautical-mile course circumnavigates the lake, while alternative courses provide equally challenging routes for a range of divisions. Open to monohull and multihull yachts, the event also features single-handed and double-handed challenges, making it a true test of both boat and sailor.
More than just a race, the Lake Ontario 300 / 600 Challenge is a defining experience for offshore sailors. From pre-race preparation to the final leg back into Port Credit, it brings together competitors from across the region to take on Lake Ontario at its most demanding.

The Lake Ontario Short Handed Racing Series (LOSHRS) is one of the most respected and enduring distance racing series on the lake. Supported by Port Credit Yacht Club for over three decades, the series began in 1997 as a single-handed challenge and has since grown to include both single- and double-handed racing, attracting sailors eager to test their skills with minimal crew.
Spanning multiple races over the season, LOSHRS is widely recognized as a proving ground for offshore and endurance sailors. The series has played a formative role for many accomplished racers — including Derek Hatfield — and continues to offer competitive, fair racing across a wide range of boat types using the PHRF rating system.
Beyond the racing, LOSHRS is known for its strong sense of camaraderie. Sailors come together before and after each race to share stories, meals, and hard-earned experience, culminating in a dedicated end-of-season awards banquet. Whether sailing solo or with one crewmate, competitors leave the series with greater confidence, sharper seamanship, and a deep appreciation for short-handed sailing on Lake Ontario.

The AHMEN Racing Series is a long-standing and popular distance racing series on Lake Ontario, offering a season-long schedule of competitive weekend races. Designed to be accessible and engaging, the series attracts a broad range of boats and sailors looking for challenging racing without the commitment of multi-day offshore events.
Port Credit Yacht Club is proud to host one of the AHMEN series races each season, welcoming competitors to our waterfront and vibrant club community. Known for its strong participation and friendly atmosphere, the AHMEN series strikes a balance between serious racing and an enjoyable social experience ashore.
Looking to race but don’t have a boat or crew? Our Crew Bank helps sailors and skippers connect so everyone has the chance to get out on the water. Linda Clarke is PCYC's Crew Bank Captain. For questions, contact Linda by email at getsailing7@outlook.com.

First sailed in 1959, the Steerers’ Invitational was created to give junior sailors a dedicated regatta at a time when youth championships did not yet exist. What began as a small gathering of neighbouring clubs at the mouth of the Credit River has grown into one of Canada’s longest-running youth sailing events.
Today, the regatta welcomes junior sailors from across Canada and the south shores of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Known for its strong competitive spirit and supportive coaching environment, the event blends high-level racing with mentorship and development.
The Steerers’ Trophy — crafted from a wooden Nutshell rudder — is awarded to the top junior club using a points formula that values both podium finishes and broad participation across classes, reinforcing teamwork and long-term sailor development.

The Four Sisters Regatta was born out of the success of the Millennium Regatta, first sailed at Port Credit Yacht Club in 2000. Recognizing the need for a major mid-summer dinghy event, the club established what has become a cornerstone of PCYC’s youth sailing calendar.
The regatta’s name honours both the four iconic smokestacks of the Lakeview Generating Station — long-standing navigational beacons for sailors — and the guiding presence of mothers and aunts who quietly shape and protect their families.
Today, the Four Sisters Regatta celebrates youth sailing, community, and tradition, blending competitive racing with the values of mentorship, continuity, and belonging that define Port Credit Yacht Club.

The C420 North American Championship is one of the premier youth double-handed sailing events in North America, bringing together top sailors from across Canada and the United States.
Widely recognized as a proving ground for emerging talent, the regatta showcases elite racing, sportsmanship, and the future of competitive sailing in the Club 420 class.
Hosting this championship places Port Credit Yacht Club among a select group of clubs trusted to deliver world-class race management and an exceptional experience for sailors, coaches, and families.
